Barleycorn's description of its pumpkin ale: Store bought pumpkin ales tend to favor spice over body. Not ours. Before brewing, we fetch as many sugar pumpkins as we need from Russel's Garden Center in Wayland. The pumpkins are then roasted prior to the brewing, and their addition to the wort adds real pumpkin flavor, body and mouthfeel. Spices are added as well (including our secret ingredient), giving the finished pumpkin ale that great taste that makes the fall season seem complete! This recipe took home a bronze medal in the 2000 National BOP Brew-Off. Here are some of the judging notes..."Malt &pumpkin flavors meld nicely. Subtle spicing is pleasant. Sweet malt flavor allows pumpkin flavor to come through. A winner!"
